altr'd by Molly is a small Rhode Island studio where clothing care is personal. I am Molly Smith, a Rhode Island artist and seamstress offering careful alterations, mending, repair, garment construction, and custom embroidery. Every project starts by listening to you and understanding your relationship with the piece. The goal is simple: clothes that fit, function well, and last longer.

My Approach
Your fitting is unhurried and practical. We talk through how you wear the garment, then I pin small changes and check movement and comfort. You receive a clear estimate and timeline before any work begins. I use quality threads, interfacings, and notions, and when it makes sense I reuse materials to cut waste. Before pickup we do a final try-on, and minor tweaks are included. You leave with care notes so the work lasts.
Meet Molly
I handle everyday needs and special pieces with equal care. Common projects include original-hem jeans, knit darning on elbows, zipper replacement on jackets and skirts, shirt and dress resizing, reinforcing high-wear seams, renewing linings, and thoughtful restyling of thrift finds.
Appointments are in Providence, Rhode Island, with simple mail-in options for embroidery and small repairs by request.
